President Hakainde Hichilema has donated K300,000 cash, four head of cattle and an assortment of goods towards the hosting of the Chibwela Kumushi Traditional Ceremony of the Soli speaking people in Rufunsa District.

Chieftainess Mpanshya, speaking through chief’s advisory council member Patrick Kashimbo, thanked President Hichilema for the contribution and his respect for traditional leadership.

She noted that the President’s respect for tradition and culture had helped Zambia remain united and peaceful across all 10 provinces.

“As traditional leaders we are grateful to see that His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema and his Government continue to embrace the promotion of our cultures and traditions,” Chieftainess Mpanshya said through Kashimbo.

The chieftainess said the traditional leadership had developed backgrounds around the culture of uniting all traditional leadership in this country, and would continue putting measures in place to strengthen them countrywide.

Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Gabriel Pollen said culture played an important role in strengthening national programmes, hence the need for national programmes to promote it.

Dr Pollen said the Government was committed to supporting vulnerable social cash transfers and Constituency Development Fund projects.

Government recognised traditional ceremonies and would continue putting measures in place to promote traditional cultural values that protect the country’s natural resources, he said.

The Zambia Congress of Chiefs and Chieftainesses (ZCCM) pledged to work with the Government in promoting traditional cultural values for the country, noting that this had promoted unity and sustained development.

He urged citizens to support President Hichilema’s leadership to sustain peace.

Among the chiefs who attended the ceremony were Chieftainess Bundabunda, Chief Mpuka and Chief Mbuluma of Central Province, alongside traditional leaders.

Bishop John Mambo said Zambia would have to have a President who valued traditional ceremonies and cultures and noted this had promoted unity among people from different backgrounds.
