Government has allocated K53 Million towards the purchase and distribution of milk in 40 schools across the country under the Milk Pilot Programme.

The move is aimed at improving learner nutrition under the School Feeding Programme.

 Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary for Administration, Noriana Muneku, says the milk programme is currently being implemented in four districts in each of the 10 provinces.

Ms Muneku said this in a speech read for her by Ministry of Education Director for Primary Education, Felix Ngoma, during the handover ceremony of a donation of five containers of food supplies from the Zambian Helpers Society and Korean Donor Company Limited to Lukamantano Secondary and Primary School in Chilanga District.

Ms Muneku explained that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance the nutritional value of meals under the School Feeding Programme.

“As part of ongoing efforts to improve the nutritional value of school meals, the Ministry has also introduced a pilot programme of providing eggs to learners in Kabwe,” Ms Muneku said.

And Zambian Ambassador to South Korea, Andrew Banda, said the government values partnerships with organisations such as the Zambian Helpers Society that recognises education as a foundation for national development.

Mr Banda noted that contributions to the School Feeding Programme help strengthen government’s efforts and investment in learners for a better future.

Chilanga District Education Board Secretary, Lenny Longwe, expressed gratitude to the Zambian Helpers Society and Korean Donor Company for the timely donation, saying it will improve learner outcomes.

Dr Longwe added that the supplies will be utilised responsibly and for the intended purpose, in accordance with the government systems and accountability measures.
