Food Reserve Agency (FRA) Northern Province Marketing Coordinator Timothy Chanda has commended farmers in Mpulungu District for following the agency’s timetable for the supply of maize.

Mr Chanda says it is gratifying that farmers are following the time table adding that the move is helping to reduce congestion and unnecessary delays at satellite depots.

 Mr Chanda says the agency does not want farmers to spend several nights in the cold while waiting to supply their maize, and that following the time table has helped to avoid keeping farmers at depots for a long time.

“We are happy to see farmers following the time table, this is good, as an agency we do not want farmers to spend several nights in the cold while waiting to supply their maize,” Mr Chanda said.

He explained that each Food Reserve Agency satellite depot has a committee chaired by a Camp Officer from the Ministry of Agriculture, with representatives from traditional leadership, churches, youths and other stakeholders serving as members.

Mr Chanda said the committees were responsible for ensuring that farmers followed the required procedures and that the maize-buying process was conducted fairly and without favoritism.

He says the arrangement is intended to promote transparency and ensure that all eligible farmers had an equal opportunity to supply their maize to the agency.

Mr Chanda who is currently in Mbala to inspect satellite depots says he is satisfied with the progress that has been made so far.

The Food Reserve Agency is currently implementing the 2026 maize marketing season.
