FOUR miners remain trapped underground, 24 days after a mine collapsed on 12 illegal miners in Lusenga Ward in Chitambo District.

Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe says efforts to rescue the four miners still trapped in the rubble are continuing.

Dr Mwanakampwe said the government remains committed to retrieving the miners and expressed hope that they are still alive.

He disclosed that the Bimbe Mine collapsed on 12 illegal miners, resulting in four deaths.

He noted that four bodies have since been recovered, while other four miners were rescued with minor injuries.

Dr Mwanakampwe said the remaining four miners are still unaccounted for, adding that rescue operations are ongoing.

He explained that the risk of a further collapse remains high, prompting authorities to strengthen security and prevent unauthorised access to the mine.

Dr Mwanakampwe stated that the mine remains closed, with security personnel continuing to monitor the situation.
