Former President Jacob Zuma Seizes Control Of MK Party Finances Amid Evictions And Arrears

Former President Jacob Zuma has reportedly taken control of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s finances after revoking the signing powers of individuals who were previously authorised to operate the party’s bank accounts.

The move could significantly shift financial control within the party and comes amid ongoing internal developments involving its leadership and administration.

“I hereby give notice that call existing signing authority on the MK Party’s bank accounts is revoked with immediate effect. During this period, no existing signatory shall exercise any signing authority on behalf of the Party in respect of any MK Party bank account.

“All financial institutions where the party maintains banking facilities are to recognise this temporary suspension of signing authority. Any transactions requiring authorised signatories shall be processed only once the new mandate has been communicated. All officials are requested to cooperate fully with this administrative process to ensure continuity, transparency, and the integrity of the Party’s financial management,” the statement reads.

Recently, reports emerged that the MK Party was facing multiple high-profile disputes with landlords across several provinces over unpaid and delayed rent.

These rental arrears have severely disrupted the party’s administrative operations, resulting in office shutdowns, lockouts, and legal eviction notices.

The financial mismanagement surrounding these non-payments has led to deep internal factional battles and staff salary delays.

In the Durban offices in KwaZulu-Natal, the landlord for the party’s provincial offices at the Victoria Marine Building allegedly locked the entrance with padlocks and chains.

Staff members were instructed to pack their belongings and leave the premises, deeply embarrassing party insiders.

In Polokwane, Limpopo, the landlord at the Albatross Centre (marketed as the Limpopo constituency headquarters) sent the party’s administrators a scathing letter cancelling the lease due to repeated failures to pay rent on time.
The party was ordered to vacate the premises entirely.

Meanwhile, in Johannesburg, Gauteng, property owners and proposed landlords for the party’s national headquarters withdrew a lease proposal, reportedly acting on advice from bankers who warned against leasing to the MK Party.

The rental defaults and wider financial struggles sparked outrage among party Members of Parliament (MPs).

Caucuses demanded an internal forensic investigation into the use of parliamentary funds, alleging that money allocated for constituency offices was unaccounted for.
