The Kabwe Magistrates’ Court has adjourned a case in which four Kabwe businessmen are accused of being in possession of forged bank notes after one of the accused failed to appear in court due to a road traffic accident.

Resident Magistrate Lishaniso Wamundila adjourned the matter to September 10, 2026 after defence lawyer Paul Chiteta informed the court that his client, Sydney Mutale Chanda, was unwell.

Mr Chiteta told the court that Chanda had been involved in a road traffic accident and was receiving treatment in hospital, making him unable to appear before the court.

The four accused persons are Andwell Mwanabowa, Sydney Mutale Chanda, Innocent Musonda and Geoffrey Musonda.

They are jointly charged with possession of forged bank notes, contrary to Section 358 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that on December 28, 2025, in Kabwe District, the four accused persons, jointly and whilst acting together, knowingly and without lawful authority possessed 14 K500 forged bank notes and 12 K200 forged bank notes.

The matter came up before the court for commencement of trial, but proceedings could not continue after the court was informed that one of the accused was unwell.

Magistrate Wamundila has since adjourned the matter to September 10, 2026, to allow Chanda to recover and be discharged from hospital.

The four accused persons are on police bond and are represented by Mr Chiteta of Chiteta and Company, while the State is represented by Joseph Zimba of the National Prosecution Authority.
