Chief Chama of the Chishinga people of Kawambwa District of Luapula Province has endorsed the candidature of President Hakainde Hichilema in the August 13, General Elections.

Chief Chama observed that President Hichilema has demonstrated that he means well for the Zambian people through various developmental projects he has undertaken from the time he assumed office.

Speaking when Vice President Mutale Nalumango called on him, Chief Chama observed that by giving the President another mandate, it will mean more development for the Zambian people.

He pointed out that through the various developments which government is implementing, many people’s lives have been transformed.

“For me I would like the President to come back in office because he has demonstrated that he wants development in all parts of the country,” he said.

The Chief has also commended the government for ensuring that peace is maintained in the country during the election period.

He observed that the country is experiencing one of the best election periods with no violence, stating that this is how it should always be.

“Let us all make sure that we guard this peace we are enjoying jealously and so far government has done well on this,” he said.

And the Vice President thanked Chief Chama for acknowledging the good works government is undertaking in the country.

Mrs Nalumango said it means a lot to the government for the chief to acknowledge the good works being implemented across the country.

She assured that the government will continue to put in place measures aimed at improving the living standards of the people in the country.

“We feel motivated by your words and we can assure you that we will continue to take development to all parts of the country,” she said.

Meanwhile, the clergy in Kawambwa have appreciated the government for the pro poor policies which it has put in place.

Kawambwa Pastors Fellowship Chairperson, Darius Kabwe, pointed out that the free education policy has helped many vulnerable families who never thought their children would get educated.

Pastor Kabwe further added that the Social Cash Transfer Programme is equally transforming the lives of people not only in Kawambwa but the country at large.

“For us as pastors, we shall continue to offer guidance to our leaders even as the country goes to the polls so that peace can prevail at all times,” he said.

The Vice President has since urged the clergy in Kawambwa to continue praying for those in leadership positions.
