LUSAKA — UPND National Youth Security Chairman Fanwell Hasulwe, widely known as General Chiwenga, has launched a blistering attack on losing ruling party parliamentary candidates, warning them to examine their consciences before challenging election results in court.

In a strongly worded video statement, Hasulwe questioned how incumbent Members of Parliament who heavily touted their grassroots popularity during internal adoption processes suffered crushing defeats to independent candidates and political newcomers.

“Some candidates under the ruling party adoption that lost elections in the just-ended general elections must check their conscience before running to courts to petition the outcome,” Hasulwe said.

He advised the defeated former lawmakers to gracefully accept the verdict of the electorate, step aside, and dismantle the entitlement mentality that suggests they possess a monopoly on leadership

“Allow others to lead and remove the notion that they are the only ones that can lead,” he added.

The remarks come as various defeated candidates pursue legal challenges against rivals who secured seats in the recent general polls.
