Former Northern Province Minister and PF member Bwalya Chungu Lazarous has rejected the official declaration of the Lupososhi parliamentary seat, claiming he was the rightful winner and alleging an “attempt to steal the election.”

In a statement made available to Zed Gossip news, Bwalya said he has evidence showing he was initially declared the winner before UPND’s Shadreck Mwansa was later announced as the newly elected MP.

Bwalya alleged discrepancies at the totaling centre.

“Videos and documents in my possession show that I was declared the winner before the UPND candidate was later officially declared winner,”he said.

“The figures displayed on the system at the totaling centre did not match the figures that were announced.”

Despite the claims, Bwalya said he is not calling for an arbitrary reversal of the result.

“I will not allow the election to be stolen,” he stated, adding that anyone challenging a declaration must “follow the prescribed legal channel of petitioning.”

Bwalya said he is ready to defend his case through the courts.

“I am ready to face the process and defend the results through the appropriate channels.”

Under Zambian law, election results can be challenged through an election petition filed in the High Court within 14 days of the declaration. The court will then determine the matter based on evidence presented.

Bwalya contested the Lupososhi seat under the NRPUP led by Brian Mundubile.
