WHY ZUMANI ZIMBA DOES NOT WANT MUNDUBILE TO PETITION THE 2026 PRESIDENTIAL RESULTS

Guest Article by Marvin Chola

According to News Diggers, Tonse Alliance Secretary General Dr Chris Zumani Zimba believes Brian Mundubile would be making a “big mistake” by petitioning the 2026 presidential election results, which saw President Hakainde Hichilema declared the winner.

Mundubile has announced his intention to challenge the presidential election results in court, citing alleged irregularities in the electoral process. He has not yet filed the petition.
Zimba’s position is based mainly on the following:

1. ACCEPT THE DECLARED RESULT
Zimba says that regardless of how controversial or painful the outcome may be, ECZ has declared Hichilema the winner and the opposition must face that reality.

2. AVOID FURTHER POLITICAL CONFRONTATION
He believes petitioning the presidential results could prolong political tensions and deepen divisions following the election.

3. PRIORITISE DIALOGUE, PEACE AND RECONCILIATION
Zimba wants the country to focus on dialogue, healing, peace and reconciliation, particularly amid concerns over people who have been detained or are in hiding.

4. BRING THE WINNER AND LOSER TOGETHER
He argues that the winner should rule inclusively while the loser accepts the outcome and supports the winner where possible, as part of rebuilding national unity.

5. HE WILL NOT TAKE PART IN THE PETITION
Zimba has made his position clear, saying he will not participate in the petition process and instead wants dialogue and reconciliation to prevail.

6. NATIONAL UNITY OVER POLITICAL CONTESTATION
For Zimba, Zambia should now move beyond the election dispute and concentrate on healing the divisions created during the campaign and election.
