BRIAN Mundubile has pledged to complete the construction of the National House of Prayer in Lusaka, saying divine intervention has enabled him and his running mate Makebi Zulu to survive alleged several assassination attempts.

Mr Mundubile, the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate says his administration would be guided by Christian values and would seek to govern in a manner that pleased God and served the interests of Zambians.

“Our leadership will be guided by God because we ought to be the light of the world. We want to please God by taking care of His people in a noble way,” Mr Mundubile said.

He was speaking during a church service at the Tabernacle of David Assembly, where he thanked Christians for continuing to pray for him and Mr Zulu during intense political attacks.

Mr Mundubile said his survival and that of his running mate Makebi Zulu from the challenges they had faced during the campaign was evidence of divine intervention.

“What has happened to us is divine intervention. It is God’s work,” he said.

He said politics had consumed much of his time, making it difficult for him and Mr Zulu to spend sufficient time in the presence of God, but pledged to ensure that Christian values remained central to his leadership.

Mr Mundubile said the National House of Prayer, once completed, would not only serve the country but could become a spiritual centre for the wider African continent.

“When we finish building the National House of Prayer, it will not only serve Zambia but the entire continent,” he said.

He also recalled his early involvement in evangelism, saying he was baptised in 1991 and subsequently spent considerable time preaching and winning souls to Jesus Christ.

“I used to evangelise on the streets and it was part of my training as a politician. I would even go into bars to evangelise,” Mr Mundubile said.

He encouraged Christians to evangelise within their respective areas of influence and said his political leadership would be different because it would be anchored on the belief that leaders should be “the light of God.”

Mr Mundubile said his decision to enter politics was motivated by a desire to make Zambia a better country, recalling the country’s Christian heritage and the vision associated with missionary David Livingstone.

He appealed to Christians to continue praying for the nation ahead of the August 13 general election on Thursday.

“We would like to call upon every Christian to pray for the nation and for us,” he said.

Mr Mundubile said there were many developments taking place in the political sphere, but maintained that his faith remained central to his aspirations for the country.
