BRE ACCEPTS KAFWAYA’S APOLOGY OVER BAROTSELAND AIRPORT REMARKS

The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has formally accepted an apology from Tonse Alliance Chairman for Finance, Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya, following his controversial statement that there was no need for an international airport in Barotseland.



In a letter dated July 17, 2026, addressed to Hon. Kafwaya, the Ngambela of Barotseland, Right Hon. Manyando Mukela, confirmed that the BRE had received and accepted the written apology.


“On behalf of the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) and the people of Barotseland, I hereby acknowledge receipt of your written apology for your statement that there is no need for an International Airport in Barotseland. Your apology has been accepted,” the letter reads.



The acceptance of the apology brings closure to a matter that had sparked public debate over infrastructure development and regional priorities in Barotseland.



The BRE did not provide further comment on the issue or indicate whether additional discussions on the proposed international airport would follow.



The letter was signed by the Ngambela of Barotseland, Right Hon. Manyando Mukela, from the BRE headquarters in Lealui. – ZED DIARY
