THREE people are nursing serious injuries after a government ambulance they were traveling in veered off the road and crashed into a street pole and billboard near Mashlands along Great East Road.

Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the accident occurred at around 20:00 hours.

The accident involved a Mercedes-Benz ambulance, registration number GRZ 103 CM, which was traveling from east to west.

Police say the driver, Owen Chimutiko, aged 33 of Lusaka, allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The ambulance then hit a street pole and a billboard before coming to a stop. The vehicle was extensively damaged.

All three occupants sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital for treatment.

They have been identified as: Owen Chimutiko, 33, Shepande Chalwe, 54 and Kayombo Mushimbe, 52.

Mr. Chilabi said police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident.
