PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has alleged that the bullet which killed UPND supporter Joseph Kaunda in 2020 was intended for him.
Kaunda, who was in his mid-20s, died after being struck by what was reported at the time to have been a stray bullet.
Addressing voters in Kafue yesterday, President Hichilema reflected on what he described as the violence and hardships his supporters endured on the road to the Presidency, mentioning several party members who lost their lives.
“There was gassing, getting tear-gassed and people being killed where we are coming from.
“Mapenzi Chibulo, a 22-year-old girl, was shot in the back of the head. Lawrence Banda was shot in the forehead at 10 hours by PF thugs,” the President said
He further alleged that the bullet that killed Joseph Kaunda had been meant for him.
“Joseph Kaunda was with me as we were going to answer a Police call-out in Lusaka. The bullet that was meant for me, somehow God didn’t allow it. Unfortunately, it went to Joseph Kaunda, a 24-year-old young man.
“He left behind a wife and two children. People used to get killed then. Have you forgotten? Do you want to go back to fights?” Hichilema asked the electorate.
