The Zambia Police Service in Western Province has confirmed that 17 suspects arrested in connection with recent unrest remain in custody at Mongu Correctional Facility, as authorities await guidance from the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) on the way forward.
Among those in custody are musicians Moses Ng'andwe, popularly known as Chester MoPower, and Felix Mangani Phiri, widely known as Felix Ndangeni Inshila, along with comedian Winston Ngosa, known by his stage name IDC Light Comedy.
In a press statement issued Friday, Commissioner of Police for Western Division, Godfrey Mwanza, said the 17 suspects have been formally charged with Riotous Behaviour and Possession of Offensive Weapons.
According to the statement, case dockets have already been forwarded to the NPA for review, and a court date will only be set once that process is complete.
"The suspects are, however, expected to appear before court as soon as all the necessary prosecutorial processes are completed," the statement read.
