LUSAKA, July 12, 2026 – An online opinion poll conducted by Zambian Eye on its Facebook platform has placed National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRP-UP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile ahead of incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema.

The poll, which asked readers “Who are you voting for? It’s a two-horse race,” featured the two candidates widely seen by many observers as the leading contenders in the August 13 presidential election.

At the time the results were captured, Brian Mundubile had attracted 57 percent of the votes, while President Hakainde Hichilema had received 43 percent.

The online poll generated significant engagement from followers of the Zambian Eye Facebook page and group, with users actively debating the state of the presidential race in the comments section.

The findings come as political campaigns intensify across the country, with both candidates drawing large crowds at campaign rallies and expressing confidence of victory.

President Hichilema, who is seeking a second five-year term under the United Party for National Development (UPND), has campaigned on his government’s record, highlighting achievements in free education, economic reforms, agriculture, health and infrastructure.

On the other hand, Mundubile, backed by the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance, has centred his campaign on promises to “reset” the economy, improve the quality of free education, create jobs, support farmers and strengthen public institutions.

In recent weeks, both campaigns have reported large attendances at rallies across several provinces, with the presidential contest increasingly shaping up as one of the most closely watched elections since Zambia returned to multi-party democracy.

Poll not scientific

While the poll provides an indication of sentiment among Zambian Eye’s online audience, it should not be regarded as a scientific or nationally representative survey.

Participation was voluntary and limited to Facebook users who follow or interact with Zambian Eye’s platforms. As such, the results may not reflect the views of the wider Zambian electorate.

The August 13, 2026 General Election will ultimately be decided by eligible voters casting ballots at polling stations across the country.
