Vice President Mutale Nalumango says government recognises traditional leaders as key partners in governance and development.

‎During her working visit in Chifunabuli District of Luapula Province, Mrs Nalumango met traditional leaders of the Abena Ng’umbo, including Chief Chitembo, Chief Mbulu, Chief Mulongwe, and representatives of Senior Chief Mwewa and Chief Mwansakombe.

She highlighted various developmental programmes that the government is undertaking across the country to improve people’s livelihoods, including the free education policy.

‎

‎”Your royal highnesses, the free education policy here in Chifunabuli District has since its introduction for instance brought 400 pupils back to school,” she said.

Ms Nalumango therefore stated that continuity of the developmental projects hinges on the electorate turning out to re-elect the United Party for National Development (UPND) on 13th August.

She added that the UPND had responded to calls for the construction of the Musaila – Lubwe – Kasaba Road to bituminous standard, a project which has commenced, with contractors already on site.

‎And Chief Chitembo hailed the government for the free education policy, and the roadworks which are now ongoing.

‎

‎The Vice President also met the Pastors Fellowship, commending their fish farming project which is aimed at creating opportunities for youths.

‎

Chifunabuli Pastors Fellowship Chairperson, Dominic Mubanga, said the clergy would remain steadfast in their prayer for government as they continue to administer the necessary critical development across the country.

‎

Reverend Mubanga said the clergy are cognisant of the various government initiatives such as the free education policy, enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF), including the current roadworks on the Musaila-Lubwe- Kasaba Road.

‎

‎He said the Chifunabuli Pastor’s Fellowship stands ready in responding to the call as partners in development.

‎

‎Addressing civil servants, Mrs Nalumango urged them to work as a unified unit with the government to ensure effective delivery of development.

‎

‎She reminded them that public servants must be in sync with the government’s policy to guarantee smooth implementation of programmes.

‎

‎The Vice President encouraged civil servants to also take up farming to ensure personal food security and boost their income, tendencies aligning with national production targets.

‎

‎She cited the government’s goal to increase maize output to 10 million tonnes and soya beans to three million tonnes among other policy targets in different sectors of the economy.

‎

‎Chifunabuli District Education Standards Officer, Grace Kambobe, reported that since the commencement of free education policy, learner enrolment has surged from 26,522 in 2021 to 41,732 currently.

‎She added that 403 teachers have since been recruited in Chifunabuli and many schools in the district are benefiting from the school feeding programme.

‎

‎Ms Kambobe also highlighted the Keeping Girls in School (KGS) initiative as a key factor in boosting retention rates in the district.

‎

‎Meanwhile, Lubwe Secondary Boarding School Headteacher, Misheck Chirwa, expressed gratitude on behalf of civil servants to Mrs Nalumango for her visit to the area.

He also thanked the government through the Vice President for a fully-fledged boarding secondary school in Mwewa chiefdom.
