 ZAMBIA has been selected as one of six countries to participate in the United Nations (UN) Country Support Mechanism on Critical Energy Transition Minerals, designed to help resource-rich countries move up the global value chain.

This is in a Press statement made available to the newsroom in Lusaka today by First Secretary Press and Public Relations to the United Nations in New York, Namata Njekwa.

Ms Njekwa stated that UN Secretary-General, António Guterres announced the first six countries during the Climate Summit 2026, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

She added that the other countries selected are Guinea, Indonesia, Madagascar, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

Ms Njekwa explained that the programme is part of the UN Task Force on Critical Energy Transition Minerals, which is jointly led by the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the United Nations Environment Programme and aims to ensure that mineral resources help improve people’s lives and support development as the world increases its use of clean energy.
