In a statement made available to the media today, ZAM President Mohammed Umar said ZDA recorded US$19.07 billion in actualised investments during the period, with the manufacturing sector accounting for US$7.33 billion, representing 38.5 per cent of the total investments and the highest among all sectors.
Mr Umar said the sector also created 46,759 actual jobs, making it the second largest contributor to employment among the sectors monitored.
He noted that the investment performance is consistent with data from the Zambia Statistics Agency, which shows manufacturing recorded positive growth throughout the review period, expanding by 4.7 per cent in 2022, 4.5 per cent in 2023, 2.3 per cent in 2024, 7.1 per cent in 2025 and 5.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2026.
“Sustained growth of this kind shows that rising investment is translating into real production capacity, value addition and employment, not simply commitments on paper,” Mr Umar said.
He added that manufacturing now contributes nearly 10 percent of Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and accounts for 10.4 per cent of Government tax revenue as of the first quarter of 2026.
Mr Umar attributed the sector’s resilience to sustained investor confidence despite challenges such as energy constraints caused by drought, limited access to affordable long-term finance and global economic uncertainty.
He further acknowledged government reforms, such as macroeconomic stabilisation, regulatory reforms, digitalisation of public services and strengthened public-private dialogue, for improving the country’s investment climate and supporting industrial growth.
He said ZAM will continue advocating for reliable and affordable electricity, lower business costs, access to competitively priced long-term finance, predictable tax policies, stronger implementation of local content policies, expanded market access and increased value addition.
Mr Umar also reaffirmed ZAM’s commitment to working with government and other stakeholders to strengthen the competitiveness of Zambia’s manufacturing sector and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
