Zambian international forward Gamphani Lungu has been voted Orlando Pirates Player of the Month for August.

Lungu has enjoyed good form after joining Pirates from Siwelele FC in June this year.

He has scored three goals in six appearances for Pirates.

“Gamphani Lungu is the newest face to be voted Orlando Pirates Player of the Month after winning the accolade in August,” Pirates announced on their website on Tuesday morning.

According to the statement, the player featured in six matches, clocking 392 minutes of action and making his presence felt in the final third.

Lungu was chosen by the fans as the standout player in the opening month of the 2026/27 season.

He was directly involved in four goals, while also creating eight chances across competitions to help the Soweto Giants to an unbeaten start to their league campaign as well as a spot in the MTN8 final.

Defender Lebone Seema was the closest challenger, finishing second with 1,405 votes, while Oswin Appollis claimed third place with 848 votes.

The rest of the field was made up by goalkeeper Sipho Chaine who came in fourth with 481 votes, with Thapelo Mokobodi receiving 421 and Tshepang Moremi rounding off the nominees with 218 votes.

Meanwhile, Lungu is currently recovering from injury sustained last week during Pirates 4-0 Betway Premiership win over Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium.

Lungu opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a penalty to put Pirates ahead early.

However, his night was cut short in the 13th minute when he picked up a knock and was replaced by Oswin Appollis.

Lungu is one of the players who was widely expected to be called up by Zambia coach George Lwandamina for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Togo.
