The upgrading of 8.31 kilometers of roads to bituminous standard in Livingstone at a cost of over K130 Million is expected to be completed by November this year.

Government is implementing the works under the Green Resilient and Transformational Tourism Development Project (Great TDP), funded by the World Bank.

Livingstone City Council Public Relations Manager, Melvin Mukela, has disclosed that works have advanced with several roads already graded and awaiting the application of bitumen.

Speaking in an interview with the media in Livingstone during a spot check, Mr Mukela explained that the Project also includes installation of street lights which has already been done on some roads at a cost of K24 Million.

“The roads earmarked for upgrade include Mukambo Road, Kashitu Road, Falls A and B Roads, Likute way, Senanga Road near the city market, and the road leading to Libuyu,” Mr Mukela stated.

Meanwhile, Mr Mukela has revealed that the local authority also allocated K3 Million from the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation, for the grading of feeder roads in the district.

He said this is in response to President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive that all rural roads in the Tourist Capital be graded.

Mr Mukela explained that the works on feeder roads under CDF are being done in four wards plus others that applied for road rehabilitation.

He emphasised that the roadworks are vital for Livingstone’s economy, particularly in supporting tourism and agriculture.

“These feeder roads are very important because they connect farm blocks to the city, ensuring that vegetables and other farm products reach the market,” he said.

And residents of Livingstone have expressed gratitude, commending the government for the road works.

Trivia Munsaka, a vegetable trader at Livingstone City market, narrated that newly graded roads will reduce the time taken for farmers to deliver produce at the market, thereby maintaining freshness.

A Motorist, Lazarus Kaoma, noted that the development is worth appreciating as roads in the tourist capital had for a long time been in a deplorable state.
