Zambia is not at war, we are peaceful and stable, Haimbe tells United Nations

FOREIGN Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe has declared that Zambia is not at war, insisting that the country remains peaceful, stable and democratic despite political differences following its recent general election.

New York, 27 September – Speaking in New York during activities surrounding the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr Haimbe emphasised that political competition should not be confused with conflict or national instability.

“It is important to emphasize that Zambia is not at war. Zambia is a peaceful, stable and sovereign nation,” he said, according to the supplied account of his address.

Mr Haimbe maintained that Zambia’s democratic institutions provided the appropriate mechanisms for resolving political disagreements, adding that the government remained committed to protecting peace, upholding constitutional governance and preventing political disputes from escalating into violence.

He further warned against armed mobilisation, insurgency and the emergence of militia groups, stressing that political differences must be resolved within the country’s constitutional and legal framework.

The minister also used Zambia’s participation at the UN General Assembly to promote the Grow Zambia Agenda, inviting international investors and development partners to explore opportunities in mining, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, tourism and digital services.

“Zambia is at peace, Zambia is open for partnership, and Zambia is ready to grow,” he said.
