Audio article Listen to this story Share Send this story THE Drug Enforcement Commission has summoned Lusaka Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda to appear for questioning on Monday, Sept. 28, in connection with alleged possession of property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained. In a joint statement with the Zambia Police Service issued Sunday, authorities said the summons follows a Warn and Caution Statement recorded on Jan. 5, 2026. The investigation relates to an offence under Section 319 of the the Penal Code. Particulars are that between April 22, 2021 and Dec. 27, 2023, Dr. Banda allegedly had in his possession a blue Toyota Hilux registration ALF 7734, property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority. The vehicle forms part of a wider investigation involving approximately 22 ZRA motor vehicles alleged to have been improperly disposed of. The broader matter has previously resulted in convictions of other persons, the statement said. Police have urged members of the public to desist from issuing inflammatory statements, stressing that the charge relates specifically to alleged possession of unlawfully obtained property. Authorities said only Dr. Banda’s legal representative and appropriate persons connected with the matter will be allowed to accompany him as he appears before law enforcement. The public has been urged to refrain from unlawful assembly or public procession, or any conduct that may breach the peace. The Zambia Police Service said it will take appropriate measures in accordance with the law to prevent unlawful conduct. The statement was jointly issued by Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi and DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba.
