North-Western Province Police Commanding Officer, Brighton Siwale, notes that the accident occurred around 19:00 hours on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 at Mukinge Airstrip along the Kasempa-Mumbwa Road.
Mr Siwale said this in a statement made available to the the media in Kasempa District, North-Western Province.
“The accident involved an unidentified male rider operating an unregistered Boxer Bajaj motorcycle and Aubrey Sonkasonka, 25, of Kawama area in Kasempa District, who was riding another Boxer Bajaj motorcycle carrying three pillion passengers,” he said.
Mr Siwale said the unidentified rider was travelling from west to east when he attempted to overtake an unidentified motor vehicle and collided head-on with the second motorcycle, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
“The accident occurred when the unknown rider attempted to overtake an unknown motor vehicle and, in the process, collided head-on with the second motorcycle, which was coming from the opposite direction and had the right of way,” he said.
Mr Siwale said both riders sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot.
He identified the other deceased as Jenipher Kalenga aged 30 and Stephan Mwanza aged 32, both of Kawama area in Kasempa District, who were travelling as pillion passengers on Mr Sonkasonka’s motorcycle.
Mr Siwale said another pillion passenger, whose identity has not yet been established, sustained serious head injuries and is admitted to the Mukinge Mission Hospital Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.
He said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the Mukinge Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations.
Mr Siwale added that both motorcycles have been impounded at Kasempa Police Station awaiting inspection by the Road Transport and Safety Agency.
