The European Union Election Observation Mission to Zambia has commended the country’s democratic environment, particularly the participation of a large number of independent candidates in the August 13, 2026 General Elections.

Speaking on the Zambia 2026 General Elections Programme on  TV, Deputy Chief Observer of the EU observation Mission to Zambia, Dr Beata Martin-Rozumilowicz said the presence of a huge number of independent candidates demonstrates the plurality and vibrancy of Zambia’s political landscape.

She stated that the mission is monitoring media coverage of the campaigns through a dedicated team assessing both qualitative and quantitative aspects of election reporting.

Dr Martin-Rozumilowicz said the mission will provide a comprehensive assessment of the role of the media in the electoral process after polling day.
