The Government of Zambia has officially declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a public holiday to facilitate the presidential swearing-in ceremony for the President-elect and Vice President-elect.

According to a government statement issued to the media on August 30, 2026, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Tuesday, September 1.

The declaration means September 1 will officially be observed as a public holiday, allowing members of the public and invited guests to participate in or follow the proceedings marking the transition into the new presidential term.

The ceremony is expected to attract government officials, political leaders, invited guests, members of the diplomatic community and members of the public.

The Government has advised invited guests attending the ceremony to consider carpooling because of limited parking space at National Heroes Stadium.

The advice is intended to help reduce congestion and avoid inconvenience as large numbers of people are expected to travel to the venue for the presidential swearing-in ceremony.

Guests have therefore been encouraged to plan their transportation arrangements in advance and consider travelling together where possible.

The declaration was signed by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick K. Kangwa and issued to the media on August 30, 2026.

The presidential swearing-in ceremony at National Heroes Stadium will mark a significant moment in Zambia’s political calendar, with the country preparing to witness the formal assumption of office by the President-elect and Vice President-elect.
