Speaking during the handover and commissioning ceremony at City Square in Kitwe today, Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary, Lawrence Mwanza said the equipment will help address challenges associated with poor road infrastructure and improve service delivery in the constituency.
Mr Mwanza said well-maintained roads are critical to economic development as they improve access to markets, schools and health facilities while facilitating the movement of people, goods and services.
“The equipment is expected to improve road maintenance, enhance accessibility, and support development activities as the city of Kitwe continues to expand,” he said.
He said Government has continued supporting constituencies through increased CDF allocations, with K3.2 million earmarked for fuel and lubricants to ensure the earth-moving equipment remains operational.
“These machines are more than just pieces of equipment, they are instruments of development. They represent Government’s determination to improve connectivity, facilitate economic activity, enhance access to social services, and improve the quality of life for our people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kitwe District Commissioner, Oncemore Ngonomo has commended Government for increasing CDF, saying the initiative has accelerated development by enabling communities to identify and implement projects that directly respond to their needs.
Mr Ngonomo said the grader and water bowser demonstrate the tangible impact of the CDF, adding that the equipment will strengthen road maintenance, improve accessibility, and open up new areas for development in Nkana Constituency.
And Kitwe Town Clerk, Patrick Kambita said the procurement of the equipment reflects Government’s continued commitment to sustainable local development.
Dr Kambita said the water bowser will support road construction and maintenance through dust suppression, while the motor grader will enhance the local authority’s capacity to undertake road works and meet the growing demand for infrastructure as new residential areas emerge.
