LUSAKA — The Zambia Army has held a thanksgiving service at Arakan Chapel, with the military leadership thanking God for what it described as protection and guidance during the recently concluded general elections.

The service brought together officers, soldiers, civilian staff and their families, with Army Ladies Association of Zambia (ALAZ) Patron Gina Zyeele also attending.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele said the military had much to be grateful for following its assignments during the elections and the subsequent inauguration ceremony.

He said the Army had relied on unity, teamwork and collective effort to carry out its responsibilities.

“The military is an extremely serious business which requires God’s grace to carry out assigned missions and tasks.”

Zyeele said the Army had provided security during the electoral process and ensured security at the inauguration ceremony.

He urged officers and soldiers to maintain courage, sacrifice, loyalty and professionalism in their service to the country.

The Army Commander also recognised the role played by military families, particularly spouses, in supporting personnel serving in the armed forces.

The service was conducted under the theme “The Conclusion of the Matter, the Beginning of Wisdom”, with the main scripture reading taken from Ecclesiastes 12:9–14.

Director of Religious and Moral Services Brigadier General (Rev) Dr Shadreck Mwale urged members of the Army to uphold integrity and reflect on their conduct both in their personal lives and in their service to the country.

He challenged the congregation to consider whether their actions reflected the expectations of their faith.

Intercessory prayers were offered for President Hakainde Hichilema, the Government, the Army leadership, officers and soldiers, civilian staff and military families.

The service also included a thanksgiving offering involving the Commander, officers, soldiers, civilian staff and Army spouses.

The thanksgiving service concluded at 10:10 hours.

The Army’s thanksgiving comes after its deployment in support of security operations during the 2026 general elections and the inauguration of the new administration.
