FORMER Patriotic Front—PF Secretary General Davies Mwila has declared that the party will ensure Brian Mundubile becomes Zambia’s next President, saying that he previously helped usher Michael Sata and Edgar Lungu into office.

And Mwila has warned that those responsible for the imprisonment of former PF leaders from Luapula Province will “pay the price.”

He has also announced that incarcerated former Intelligence chief Xavier Chungu has endorsed Mundubile’s presidential bid after withdrawing his own candidature for the August 13 polls.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Mansa yesterday, Mwila said Zambians were ready to usher in a new government led by Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu.

“We made Michael Sata, we made Edgar Lungu, and we are going to make sure that president Brian Mundubile is elected. Luapula has not produced silly people. The people of Zambia will vote for you,” Mwila said.

Commenting on the imprisonment of senior PF figures from Luapula, Mwila said that those behind their incarceration would be held accountable.

“Our leaders from here, Xavier Chungu, [Nixon] Chilangwa and [Ronald] Chitotela have been jailed. Whoever has jailed Chitotela, Chilangwa and Xavier Chungu will pay the price,” he said.

Mwila also told the gathering that Xavier Chungu had written a letter announcing his decision to withdraw from the presidential race and his subsequent endorsement of Mundubile.

“Xavier Chungu has written us a letter, and he wanted me to read it here. He was to contest as a presidential candidate, but has withdrawn his candidature to support Brian Mundubile. That’s the letter he has written,” Mwila said.
