NAKONDE, MUCHINGA PROVINCE, July 1, 2026 – National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRP-UP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, on Wednesday addressed another well-attended campaign rally in the border town of Nakonde, where they outlined their vision for infrastructure, education and economic reforms ahead of the August 13 General Election.
The rally came just hours after the duo held another major campaign meeting in Isoka as they continued their campaign tour of Muchinga Province under the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) campaign schedule.
Addressing supporters in Nakonde, Mundubile pledged that an NRP-UP government would reduce taxes on motor vehicles, a move he said would make vehicle ownership more affordable for many Zambians.
He also promised to construct an international airport in the region as part of his administration’s plans to improve transport infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.
On education, the opposition leader said his government would not only maintain free education but also improve its quality by providing learners with school uniforms and learning materials.
Mundubile argued that while access to education had increased, overcrowded classrooms were affecting the quality of learning.
“We will offer quality free education that comes with uniforms and books. Education must not only be free but must also be of good quality,” he told supporters, adding that his government would invest in additional classroom space and other education infrastructure.
NRP-UP Nakonde rally
The NRP-UP leader has continued attracting large crowds since launching his presidential campaign in Kitwe and later holding another major rally in Kabwe.
Following the ECZ campaign calendar, Mundubile has so far campaigned in Eastern Province before moving into Muchinga Province. His campaign is expected to continue into Northern and Luapula provinces in the coming days as he seeks to consolidate support ahead of polling day.
Political observers have identified the northern region, together with urban centres such as the Copperbelt and Lusaka, as key battlegrounds in this year’s presidential race, although the outcome will ultimately depend on voter preferences across the country.
The full Nakonde rally can be watched on the Zambian Eye Facebook page.
