On Thursday morning, voting at Mutakwa Primary School in Mungule, Chibombo District, didn’t begin on time.

Voters showed up early and joined the queue, expecting the polling station to open at 06:00.

But by 06:45, nothing was happening.

People waiting in line said they couldn’t see any Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) officials or ballot papers.

The site also hadn’t been set up yet — there were no ECZ banners or voting materials in place.

Frustration started to build as the minutes passed, with voters standing for hours ready to cast their ballots.

Relief came just before 07:00. At around 06:56, ECZ officials finally arrived.

They immediately began setting up the polling station so voting could start.

Despite the delay, the voters who had been waiting stayed in line.
