NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says he has no bitterness towards President Hakainde Hichilema and will respect him as a former head of state once elected.

Mundubile has also prayed for unity and a peaceful voting process.

He claims that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is incapable of conducting a free and fair election, alleging that it is being controlled by the UPND.

Speaking when he featured on the Red Hot Breakfast Show, Wednesday, Mundubile said reconciling with President Hichilema would be his first agenda once elected.

“We can’t have a Zambia where the President would only speak to death when it relates to either somebody that is related to or somebody that comes from a political party. So, the issue of reconciliation should not be underplayed. It’s very important for us to have this unity. There can be no meaningful development that can come if we are not united. That’s why our first agenda is to have reconciliation in our country. We have a lot of hate that needs to end with us. Once elected, President Hakainde Hichilema will be a former president very soon. I can’t reciprocate his insults towards me and I have no bitterness towards President Hichilema and as such, I will respect him as former head of state,” he said.

Mundubile then led a prayer calling for unity and a peaceful voting process.

“Father, we pray that you continue to pour your love, blood of Jesus. We pray that all those weapons that are fashioned against your own, against your own children shall not prosper. Father, we bind every evil activity that is planned. All those foreigners coming in here with guns with intention to kill others, father, we paralyse them in Jesus’ name. Father, I pray for your grace, Lord. We pray for the prosperity of this country, father. We pray for the prosperity of every Zambian. Father, we pray for the clarity of thought tomorrow (Thursday) as Zambians go to vote. Father, we pray for love. We pray for unity. And above all, father, we pray that you take total control of this process now and forever more. Amen,” he prayed.

Mundubile added that decisions made by the ECZ were being spearheaded by the UPND.

“Well, of course, if you look at what has transpired and how the ECZ has handled this election management process, that can only be deliberate. You know, we must make it very clear and I’m not being political: ECZ is incapable of conducting a free and fair election. They’re incapable, one, because of its composition. In as much as they may be professionals in their own right, they could have redeemed themselves through their actions and conduct. Look at the five-year period of the ECZ and its management team, the decisions that they’ve made. Just a few days ago we’ve been reading about how they want to introduce a tick on one of the options. When did that come? You can’t do that within a week away, two weeks away. So clearly, the people that are running ECZ is actually Community House. It has nothing to do with the people they’re fronting. And the people that are at ECZ have allowed themselves to be used as tools. What UPND wants is what goes,” said Mundubile.

Meanwhile, Mundubile’s running mate, Makebi Zulu, said that if elected, the duo would ensure President Hichilema receives the respect he deserves as a former leader.

“We have refused to make this election about who insults the most, who demeans the other the most, because that’s not what this election is about. What example are we going to be giving to the young politicians that are hoping to get into politics? What example are we going to be giving them? Ours is not about hatred. It does not require hatred. You can’t be saying we are going to reconcile the country, then during the campaign period you are perpetuating hate and division. After our term is done, we would want to be looked at as the boys that pressed the reset button and gave Zambia its second independence. I will not insult President Hakainde Hichilema. We’ll give him the respect that is due to him and choose to disagree on what we disagree on and agree on what we need to agree on. Maturity requires that even when you differ in certain areas, matters of principle should always remain,” said Zulu.
