UPND CADRES THREATEN MALAMBO EAST MP-ELECT AS STATE HOUSE CALLS FOR RESTRAINT
Newly elected Malambo East Member of Parliament Faith Lungu Bury is concerned over reports that suspected UPND cadres are threatening her life and planning to attack her supporters.
Lungu said the threats have escalated since her historic victory as the first female MP to represent the constituency, with cadres allegedly using the narrative that President Hakainde Hichilema has won as justification to petition her seat.
She noted that such rhetoric is dangerous and undermines the democratic will of the people of Malambo East, who made their choice freely and must be respected.
Lungu affirmed that she will not be intimidated or silenced, and she called upon the Zambia Police Service to act swiftly to protect her life and the safety of her constituents.
She emphasised that violence and threats have no place in Zambia’s democracy and urged political leaders across the divide to publicly condemn such acts.
Lungu reaffirmed her commitment to serving the people of Malambo East with integrity and courage, adding that elections are over and the time has come for unity and national healing.
Earlier, President Hakainde Hichilema’s advisor Jito Kayumba called for restraint as people celebrate victory and avoid mocking others.
