Two opposition candidates have withdrawn their candidature and joined the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

Speaking during President Hakainde Hichilema’s community engagement at Matanda Stadium in Kafue district, Dalisto Zulu, who had filed in as an aspiring candidate for Kafue East Constituency Member of Parliament under the Democratic Party, and Joe Sakala, as an independent candidate for Kansenje Ward, announced their resignation and subsequent decision to join the UPND.

The duo cited the massive development recorded under the UPND administration as the reason for their decision.

“We are here to announce our decision to resign from our parties and withdraw our candidature for the positions of Kafue East Constituency Member of Parliament and Kansenje Ward Councillor in order to join the UPND”, said Mr Zulu.

Meanwhile, former Matero Member of Parliament and Patriotic Front President Miles Sampa said President Hichilema is the only presidential candidate with the experience required to govern the country.

Mr Sampa said President Hichilema deserves another term in office because he has demonstrated commitment to the country’s development and the welfare of the Zambian people.

“President Hichilema is the only candidate on the presidential line-up with the experience to run the country; therefore, we should give him another term in office”, said Mr Sampa.

He further appealed to the people of Kafue district to give President Hichilema 100 percent support in the August 13, 2026 general election.

Meanwhile, scores of Kafue residents turned up at Matanda Stadium to attend President Hichilema’s community engagement in the district.
