In a national address tonight, U.S. President Donald Trump made several controversial claims during a 27-minute speech. Among the most striking was his allegation that China attempted to influence the 2020 presidential election and that the U.S. intelligence community concealed evidence of those efforts.
Trump claimed that China obtained the personal information of 220 million U.S. voters, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and political party affiliations.
“Documents show that, during this period, dozens of significant CIA and NSA reports regarding China’s election targeting were excluded from the presidential briefing,” Trump said.
He described the allegations as “irrefutable” and pledged to release previously classified intelligence files that he said would support his claims. Whether those documents provide evidence to substantiate the allegations remains to be determined.
Trump also called on the Federal Communications Commission to revoke the broadcast licenses of ABC and NBC after the networks chose not to air his primetime address.
He accused the networks of attempting to prevent the public from seeing what he described as evidence of election fraud.
