Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) has attracted strong investor interest on the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE), with the Bank recording the highest market turnover for the trading period ended 21 August 2026.

According to the Stockbrokers Zambia Weekly Equity and Economic Report, a total of 732,000 ZANACO shares were traded during the period, generating market turnover of K6.9 million and making the Bank the leading contributor to trading activity on the exchange. While the Bank’s share price adjusted marginally by 0.11% to close at K9.50 per share, market experts note that day-to-day share price movements are a normal feature of stock markets and do not necessarily reflect the underlying performance or longterm value of a company.

Share prices are influenced by a variety of factors, including market sentiment, supply and demand dynamics, and investor portfolio decisions.

Commenting on the high trading volumes, ZANACO Executive Head Client Solutions Dr Chanda Chime- Katongo attributed the activity to growing shareholder participation and increasing public interest in owning shares in the Bank.

“Over the last five years, we have seen significant growth in local participation. Whereas five years ago we had approximately 2,000 local shareholders, today we have more than 10,000 shareholders,” said Dr Katongo.

She explained that the growth in shareholder numbers reflects increasing confidence among Zambians in participating in the capital markets and investing in local companies.

“More Zambians are taking an active interest in owning shares and building wealth through long-term investments. ZANACO continues to be one of the companies attracting this interest, which contributes to the trading activity we are seeing on the market,” she said.
