PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema on Friday called on Zambians to maintain peace and unity as the Electoral Commission of Zambia continues to tally votes from the August 13 elections.

In a statement, President Hichilema said Zambia remains a peaceful and united nation and urged citizens to “guard this peace and stability.”

“Elections anywhere take time, and so do the results. This is the nature of a thorough, credible, and methodical process,” he said.

The President said the role of leaders at this time is to urge calm and patience. He called on all citizens to uphold the rule of law while awaiting the outcome.

“As we said this morning, our current trajectory is extremely good and assuring, but we must all wait, with no exceptions,” President Hichilema said.

He concluded: “May God continue to bless our beloved nation.”
