POLICE are investigating a suspected child trafficking case after three children reported missing were found safe in Lusaka following an intelligence-led operation.

The children include 12-year-old twins and a 14-year-old. They were traced a day after they were reported missing.

According to Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, Woodlands Police Station received a report on July 14, 2026 at around 13:00 hours from a relative of one of the children.

Preliminary information indicates the children were last seen boarding a public bus in Luanshya early that morning.

“Information regarding their disappearance was later circulated on social media. Upon receiving the report, police immediately launched investigations and conducted an intelligence-led operation, which resulted in the children being successfully traced and located in Lusaka on July 15, 2026, at around 13:00 hours,” Mr. Chilabi said.

Mr. Chilabi said preliminary investigations suggest the matter may involve an attempted child trafficking offence.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the movement of the children and to identify any persons who may have been involved. No arrests have been made so far.

Police have engaged the Department of Social Welfare to provide the necessary child protection services.

The Zambia Police Service is appealing to members of the public to respect the privacy of the affected children and their families by refraining from sharing information or images related to the matter.
