A PHYSICAL chat with the police has made a Chipata man sing like a bird, confessing that he used Artificial Intelligence to forge a grade 12 certificate for a National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) local government candidates in the August 13 polls.

Tyabaniso Nyirongo Kapata Compound is the second suspect apprehended after the arrest of Chipangali Ward councillor-elect Innocent Daka who was apprehended for the offence of forging and presenting a fake Grade 12 certificate to authorities during the nomination process in last month’s general election.

Initially police arrested Daka of Nkoto Village who stood on the NRPUP ticket for Chipangali Ward under Chipangali East Constituency for presenting fake documents before the Returning Officer at the Chipangali nomination centre ahead of the elections.
He was apprehended following investigations by Chipata Central Police Station.

Police officers recovered the certificate bearing Daka’s name and an examination number purportedly from Anoya Zulu Secondary School.

However, investigations established that the examination number belongs to another person, identified as Emmanuel Phiri, and not Daka.

Following the arrest, It did not take too long for the police to catch up with the person behind the art work that almost fooled officials.

Eastern Province commanding officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the arrest of the second suspect.

“Another suspect Male Tyabaniso Nyirongo aged 27yrs of Kapata Compound, Chipata District has admitted to having done the forgery and has also been apprehended in connection with the above case bringing the number of suspects in custody to two.”

“Nyirongo is said to be the one who actually made the forged certificate on a phone through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The said phone which was used has since been seized for further forensic examinations,” stated Mweemba.

The two are currently in police custody.
