The Brian Mundubile Movement (BM Movement) senior official Binwell Mpundu has called on President Hakainde Hichilema to stop targeting ordinary Zambians over political affiliations and instead hold fellow politicians accountable.

Mpundu said the President should leave citizens alone and direct any post-election action at political leaders.

“President HH, you even know that these are all innocent and must not be included in the hunt. The people you should be hunting down are us, your fellow politicians,” Mpundu said in a social media post.

He claimed that over 300 supporters of former presidential candidate President Mundubile are currently being held in different facilities for activities linked to the August election campaign.

According to Mpundu, those detained include people who “simply sang songs for him, simply entertained the crowds, simply provided legal services, simply provided security services, some were simply drivers while others were simply in offices coordinating the campaigns, some simply gave out money to support the campaign, some were simply doing media coverage.”

Mpundu argued that supporting an opponent should not be criminalized.

“Please, let these people go for they have done no wrong. Supporting your opponent should never be a crime,” he said.

Invoking scripture, Mpundu added: “Let people go Pharaoh so that they can go and save me, God demanded.”

The BM Movement official ended with a direct question to the public: “Which side are you as a citizen.”

President-elect Hichilema is set to be sworn in on September 1, 2026. His administration has not issued an immediate response to Mpundu’s statement.

Human rights organizations have in the past called for due process in all post-election matters and warned against arrests based solely on political association.
