Zanaco FC Coach Mumamba Numba has challenged his team to improve performance and please sponsors and fans in the upcoming 2026 MTN Super League Transition Season.

The Bankers endured a difficult campaign last season, finishing 7th on the table with 50 points from 34 matches — 28 points behind champions Power Dynamos.

Numba admitted the team’s display was below expectations.

“We disappointed our sponsors and fans last season but this time around we need to do better,” Numba told journalists.

He said the technical bench has responded by *making changes to the squad to enhance performance.

“That’s why we brought in few guys to add value to the team. The new guys are settling in very well,” he added.

Speaking after Zanaco’s 2-2 draw against AS Simba of DR Congo in an international friendly at Sunset Stadium on Wednesday, Numba said the match exposed areas needing work.

“This match has given us a true picture of where we are and where we need to work on. We looked better in the first 45 minutes but conceded silly goals, which is a worry on our part,” Numba said.

“We would have prevented those goals if we were awake on the pitch. This is good for all players who played to assess their readiness. We still have time to work on mistakes noted in this match,” he said.

Numba hailed the friendly against the Congolese side as valuable ahead of the league restart.

The coach made it clear that the objective is to bounce back.

“Our target is to make sure we perform well,” Numba stressed.

Zanaco will be looking to close the gap on the league’s top sides when the MTN Super League Transition Season kicks off on 2 October.
