NRPUP Secretary-General Nonde Mubanga announced the withdrawal, saying the party made the decision after reviewing the alliance’s objectives and operations and consulting members.
Mubanga said NRPUP continues to support unity and national development, but concluded it would better serve its supporters outside the alliance.
“We believe that our goals and aspirations can be more effectively pursued through an alternative path that best serves the interests of our members and supporters,” he said.
He stressed the move was not aimed at any individual or party in the alliance.
“Our withdrawal should not be interpreted as hostility or opposition toward any individual or organization within the Alliance,” Mubanga said.
The party said it values relationships built during its time in the Tonse Alliance and appreciates the joint work done.
NRPUP said it will now focus on its own political program. The party will announce future activities once leadership concludes consultations.
The exit comes as Zambian parties reassess alliances following the 2026 general elections.
