Mr. Simutenda’s brother, Gabriel Simutenda, confirmed he died around midnight on 18th August following an illness.
The late Mayor-Elect contested the mayoral election on the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) ticket and was declared winner in the 13th August 2026 General Elections.
He had been hospitalised about a week before the elections after falling ill, but still participated and secured victory.
Before 2021, Mr. Simutenda served as PF District Chairperson for Mbala. He later became NRPUP District Chairperson and remained an active opposition voice in the district.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
