LUMEZI Town Council has received two brand-new community tractors purchased under the World Bank-funded Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP).

The tractors will be used by local communities to support farming activities and increase access to mechanised agriculture, particularly for small-scale farmers.

The purchase forms part of the K4,867,749.43 that Lumezi Town Council received in April this year under the 2024 World Bank Capital Grant allocation, which is being implemented through the Zambia Devolution Support Programme.

“Lumezi Town Council has received two brand new tractors purchased using the World Bank funded Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP). These will be used as community tractors across the district with a view to enhance agricultural productivity and mechanisation amongst local farmers. The purchase of the two-community tractors is part of the K4,867,749.43 received in April this year under the 2024 World Bank Capital Grant allocation through the Zambia Devolution Support Programme being implemented this year. In total, Lumezi Town Council is earmarked to receive K17,400,347 from the World Bank for implementation of key developmental projects across the district,” stated the council.

“Among the projects that are yet to be implemented are; Installation of solar street lights at Lumezi Centre in Chamtowa ward aimed at enhancing security and improving visibility, thereby enabling businesses to operate at night. Construction of a bus station at Lumezi sub centre in Chamtowa Ward seeking to improve public transport infrastructure. Construction of a slaughter slab in Chamtowa Ward for the promotion of public health and supporting local livestock value chains. Installation of three water supply schemes across Lumezi District for improved access to clean and safe drinking water. Construction of a Community Skills Training Hall at Lumezi Community Skills Training Centre which will provide a conducive environment for learning and community engagements. Construction of a one storey dormitory at Lumezi Community Skills Training Centre to enhance accommodation capacity for trainees. Members of the public are urged to familiarize themselves with the Zambia Devolution Support Programme by contacting the Local Authority where need be”.
