PF Secretary General for Administration and UPND Alliance partner Edwin Lifwekelo has called on the opposition to accept the outcome of the 2026 general election and allow President Hakainde Hichilema to govern.
In a statement dated August 27, 2026, Lifwekelo said President Hichilema had demonstrated restraint and leadership despite what he described as intimidation and mistreatment during previous political periods.
He cited the arrest and imprisonment of President Hichilema on treason charges, restrictions on his campaigns and the 2016 presidential petition, arguing that those who are now challenging the election outcome should respect the same legal and democratic processes.
Lifwekelo said no political manoeuvres should be allowed to prevent President Hichilema from being sworn in, urging the opposition to accept defeat and prepare for the 2031 elections.
He described President Hichilema’s re-election as a victory for democracy and said the UPND Alliance Government remains focused on improving the economy and reducing the cost of living for Zambians.
“KAMA IS REAL, KOSENIFYE BANE FISANGA AMAUME. WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN,” Lifwekelo said, calling for fairness and respect for the electoral process.
