LILANDA WINS MAZABUKA CENTRAL PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS WITH A LANDSLIDE VICTORY

United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Vincent Lilanda has won the Mazabuka Central Parliamentary seat with a landslide victory, beating former Local Government Minister Gary Nkombo and three other contestants.

Lilanda polled 20,420 votes. Independent candidate Gary Nkombo came second with 10,720 votes.

Independent candidate Alfred Hakede received 1,219 votes, Independent candidate Playson Hachintu polled 336 votes, while Socialist Party candidate Denwid Masumba got 73 votes.

Mazabuka Central Constituency Returning Officer, Chilala Bbalo, declared Lilanda duly elected Member of Parliament at 02:50 hours on Saturday morning.

A total of 450 ballots were rejected as invalid out of 33,218 votes cast.

Addressing his supporters, Lilanda dedicated the victory to the people of Mazabuka, saying the people of Mazabuka Central had spoken and that “work starts now.”

He pledged to work with the people to address challenges affecting Mazabuka Central.

Meanwhile, Mazabuka Mayor-Elect Kelvin Muleya, who went unopposed, and UPND Constituency Chairperson Skinner Pasi Sialubala described the elections as free, fair, and a true reflection of the will of the people.
