Mbala Mayor-elect Steward Simutenda, who died on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, has been put to rest.

Scores of Mbala residents turned up at Mbala Central Seventh Day Adventist Church, to pay their last respects to the late Mr Simutenda.

Speaking during the church service, Seventh Day Adventist Church Pastor, Bryson Katele encouraged the family and believers to find solace in God.

Pastor Katele urged mourners to remain firm in their faith, saying death is not the end for those who believe in God.

And speaking at Mutambalike Cemetery, where the late Mr Simutenda was laid to rest, United Party for National Development (UPND) Saise Lawmaker Remmy Sikazwe described the mayor’s death as shocking.

Mr Sikazwe commended Mbala residents for demonstrating unity during the funeral.

“This gathering has demonstrated the unity that exists among the people of Mbala, and we should continue with this spirit of togetherness even beyond the funeral,” said Mr Sikazwe.

Meanwhile, Mbala Central Member of Parliament Raphael Chilufya urged the bereaved family to remain united during the difficult period.

Mr Chilufya pledged to work with the family and the people of Mbala in honour of the late mayor, stressing the importance of supporting one another.

And Mbala District Commissioner, Jestus Sikazwe, in a speech read on his behalf by Mbala District Livestock Coordinator, Jones Kabaso said the late mayor-elect was a dedicated individual who demonstrated commitment in serving the community.

The District Commissioner said Mr Simutenda’s dedication to public service and community development will be remembered by the people he served.

“He was passionate about working for the people even during his time as Councillor for Kazimolwa Ward, as well as through his personal business activities,” he said.
