UPND candidate Joseph Kazhila has filed a petition challenging the election results for Chingola Central Constituency, following his defeat in the August 17 general elections.

Kazhila polled 10,182 votes against National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) candidate Michelle Phiri, who secured 21,948 votes. Returning Officer Kelvin Mwenda announced the results on election day, noting that 32,456 votes were cast, with 326 ballots rejected as invalid.

The petition, filed today (29 August 2026), comes 12 days after the official results were declared. Phiri's victory marked NRPUP's second parliamentary seat in Chingola District, with party colleague Rosemary Chipoya winning in Nchanga Constituency.
