With the introduction of the Pre-Fabricated housing […]

With the introduction of the Pre-Fabricated housing concrete plant in Kafue a months ago, the expectations have heightened over the impact on the cost of building houses. Especially that the country has a deficit of 1.5 million housing units, but can the Zambia National Shelter Limited operated initiative yield huge dividends and trickle to the reduction of rentals since most Zambians will drift to Pre-fabs?

According to information obtained by ZBT, the initiative is revolutionalizing the real estate sector across the globe, cutting building timelines by up to 50 percent and reducing material waste. Commenting on the matter in an interview with the Zambian Business Times ZBT, Landlords and Tenants Information Referral Centre Roban Muke hinted that the increase of pre-fab houses would be a plus for the housing market.

Revealing that generally, the increase in rentals by the landlords is mostly attributed to the overly priced construction materials. “It’s a blessing to have such an initiative and we hope that it would affect the market, because most time landlords base their hike in rentals to materials, if the prcie can be reduce we should support it.”

Muke added that the exploitation of tenants by landlords has been an issue of great concern and calls have been made to the government to handle it. “I have a pending case of a tenant who is being harrased by the landlord just after delaying paying the rentals, the government should address on such issues because there is no way that we should be talking about such the law is very clear,” he added.

The introduction of the initiative is a plus, and less has heard of it since the plant was launched earlier this year and the nations awaits how impactful this development will be to the livelihood of tenants.
