I used to hide money from my wife — Ex-Minister
FORMER Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Collins Nzovu says God will never give anyone a perfect partner, urging couples to embrace each other’s strengths instead of expecting flawless marriages.
Speaking candidly about his own marriage, Nzovu said many people assume couples who appear happy in public never experience difficulties behind closed doors.
“When you see us smiling in public, you might think we don’t go through challenges in marriage or family,” he said.
“The truth is, what binds us together is not just love or the good times. It is surviving challenges together and learning to forgive each other freely.”
Nzovu said the secret to a lasting marriage is understanding that no spouse is perfect, but that couples have a responsibility to help each other grow.
“God will never give you a perfect partner. It is your responsibility to help perfect each other,” he said.
Reflecting on the early years of his marriage, Nzovu admitted that he once used to hide money from his wife, but later discovered she was far better at managing the family’s finances than he was.
“I remember in the early days of our marriage, I used to hide money from my wife. But over time I realized something: she was better at handling finances than I was,” he said.
He added that, “Since she took over, we have made far more progress as a family. For a long time now, she has been the one receiving my salary. I have even forgotten what the inside of a bank looks like because she handles everything.”
“In short, she has complemented my weakness in finances,” Nzovu said.
Despite the progress they have made together, Nzovu said disagreements are still part of their marriage, but separation has never been an option.
“Does this mean we don’t disagree? No. Sometimes we differ, even bitterly. But separation has never been an option. The foundation we have built is stronger than any force that can try to separate us,” he said.
Addressing young people, Nzovu encouraged them to value and protect their marriages instead of giving up when challenges arise.
“Stick to what you have. Protect what you have. Respect what you have,” he advised.
Nzovu has advised you g people: “Marriage is not perfect, but it is worth working on. Grow together through the challenges. Sometimes the challenges will be bigger, but choose to stay together.”
